Cumulus Picks Nielsen For Ratings In 50 Markets
|
Seven months after Cumulus invited qualified vendors to submit proposals to conduct a new audience measurement service in 50 of its small-and mid-size markets, it this morning (Nov. 18) announced that The Nielsen Company has been selected to carry out the task. The April 14 "request for proposal" by the Atlanta-based broadcaster sought a company that offered a service designed to measure both quantitative and qualitative audience characteristics beginning Jan. 1, 2009, after deciding to no longer subscribe to the Arbitron Radio Market Reports. Also, Clear Channel has signed with Nielsen to take the service in 17 of the 50 markets where Cumulus will be measured.

FCC's Adelstein Calls For Investigation Into PPM

After weeks of speculation that he would do so, FCC commissioner Jonathan Adelstein on Tuesday (Nov. 18) asked chairman Kevin Martin to initiate a formal investigation into Arbitron's launch of its Portable People Meter (PPM) service nationwide, based on accusations by minority broadcasters that the PPM short-counts the minority audience.

Rudy Gerdeman exits afternoons at Cumulus Alternative WRWK (106.5 The Zone)/Toledo. Gerdeman joined The Zone in May after spending 13 years at Ingleside Alternative WWCD (CD101)/Columbus, OH.
Budget cuts reach Saginaw, MI, where morning guy Jim Johnson is sliced from NextMedia Hot AC WGER (Magic 106.3). "Jim ran a quality show, he is a great guy to work with, and I am positive he will land well," PD Lauren "Ren" Davis tells ST. "He has earned my respect and kudos for a job well done at Magic, but it is time for us to move in a different direction." Look for Davis to remove the tarp from Magic's new lineup on Dec. 1.
Market vets (and married duo) Davin & Ana exit mornings on Denver Radio Top 40 KONN (One FM)/Denver due to budget cuts. They'd been working on a reality TV show to pair up with their radio exploits, should any interested parties be looking for a multiplatform show -- hit them up at 720-841-1001 or davin450hp@aol.com, or check out demos at www.myspace.com/davinanaarchives.
